West Valley Humane: Young girl helps rescue hamster being tossed around at playground

A little girl came up big to help a furry little friend.

The West Valley Humane Society says a young girl saw some children in her neighborhood tossing a hamster inside a bag as a game of catch. The children were also spotted dropping the hamster down a slide to see how far it would go off the end.

"It takes a lot of bravery to stand up to a bully in the moment, and we are so proud of our Caldwell Hero for stepping up and rescuing an animal in need," West Valley Humane Society said. "Her compassion and empathy made all the difference for Ezra and set him up for life-saving support."

Animal workers say Ezra the hamster was "pretty shaken up" after the ordeal. They also found a cancerous tumor and were able to remove it with surgery. It's now recovering at home in a foster home.

"This little girl is an amazing reminder of how acts of kindness can make a huge difference. If you see something, say something. You have the power to make a better place for animals in Canyon County."
